NFL Week 3 Highlights and Lowlights

NFL Highlights and Lowlights of Week 3

Week 3 Of the 2017 season started with a with an early season Thursday Night showdown between NFC West rivals Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49’ers. Most would say that Thursday night games have been more of a bore fest than a slugfest especially with these two cellar dwellers of the NFC. Boy was I wrong about this one.

LA Rams 41 (2-1)   San Francisco 49ers 39 (0-3)

The Rams and 49ers come into week 3 with both teams being handed L’s is week 2. The Rams lost a close one at home versus the Redskins and the 49’ers lost on the road to the Seahawks. On the Niners opening drive Quarterback Brian Hoyer threw an interception and the Rams returned it to the 3 -yard line. The Rams punched it in on a Todd Gurley II 3-yard run. The Niners answered back with a on 9 -yard Brian Hoyer TD. Later in the 1st quarter Rams QB Jared Goff connected with Todd Gurley II on a 7- yard TD making it 14-7. The Niners wouldn’t go down without a fight scoring a combined 13 points in the 2nd and 3rd Quarters and 19 in the final stanza meanwhile the Rams went on to score 20 total points in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and 7 in the 4th on the final play of the game the Niners failed to convert on the 2pt conversion and the after a Carlos Hyde 1yd touchdown. Rams win 41-39 on the road. This marks the second time in 3 weeks LA has scored 40 points.

Key Stats: Rams QB Jared Goff threw for 292 yards and three TD’s and Niners QB Brian Hoyer threw for 332 with 2 TD’s and 1 int. Rams Wideouts Sammy Watkins (6 rec. 108 yards 2TD’s) and Robert Woods (6 rec. 106) both went over the century mark. SF wideout Pierre Garcon led all receivers with 142 yards receiving.

Highlight: Both teams decided to put on a show on Thursday Night so the Defenses took the night off on what turned out to be an entertaining game scoring a combined 80 points, the most scored on TNF.

Lowlight: The Niners are well on their way to a top three picks in the 2018 Draft. Next week isnt looking so easy for the Niners as they hit the road to Arizona versus the Cardinals.

Baltimore Ravens 7 (2-1)       Jacksonville 44 (2-1) In London

This ain’t no typo
A show of solidarity was on display in London following the inflammatory comments made by President Donald Trump about Players that kneel during the National Anthem.

On to the game. The Jaguar Defense came out swinging as they applied pressure to The Ravens all game long rendering the Ravens to 186 total yards of offense for the game. Ravens QB Joe Flacco threw for only 28 yards through the air. That also is not a typo. While back up Ryan Mallett threw the only TD score for the Ravens. Jaguars Rookie RB Leonard Fournette ran for 59 yards and 1 TD, Blake Bortles threw for 244 yards and 4 TD’s looking like the Blake Bortles from a few seasons ago.

Highlight: The Jags showed signs of complete team for the first time in forever. The offseason investments in their defense played a major role in this game but TRANQUILO it only week 3.

Lowlights: The Ravens toughest opponent wasn’t the Jags it was the Jetlag (I guess) because they were inept on both sides of the ball. The Steelers come to town next week.

Houston Texans 33 (1-2)   New England Patriots (2-1)

The reigning Super Bowl Champs New England Patriots host the Houston Texas at Gillette in Foxborough. Both teams coming off wins in week 2 look to keep the ball rolling in the W column. It was an air show between Rookie Texans QB Deshaun Watson and the Pats Tom Brady. Brady threw for 5 TD’s 2 to Brandin Cooks, 2 to Chris Hogan and 1 to Rob Gronkowski. Watson also threw 2 TD’s, Bruce Ellington and TE Ryan Griffin had 1 apiece. DE Jadeveon Clowney added a pair of sacks to lead all D-Linemen. The Texans 4 sacks weren’t enough to contain Brady and the Pats as he threw to 7 different receivers.

Highlights: After a slow start to the season Tom Brady, 40 has put the league on notice and gave the Texans a reminder of his G.O.A.T status. Brady has a lot of weapons at his disposal which makes it a tough task to tame on a weekly basis for the opposition.

Lowlights: Deshaun Watson held his own despite throwing 2 Ints. It’s gonna be long season for the rookie signal caller but from the looks of it The Texans may have found their QB of the future.

Atlanta Falcons 30 (3-0)   Detroit Lions  26 (2-1)

After winning their home opener in Week 2 against Green Bay the Dirty Birds head North to the Motor City to face the Detroit Lions who put the kibosh on the Giants last Monday Night.

Despite throwing 3 Ints. One which was a 37-yard return for a TD, MVP Matt Ryan to victory Julio Jones led al receivers with 96 yards on 7 grabs. RB Davonte Freeman ran for 106 and 1 TD for tor the Falcons. Lions Kicker Matt Prater kept the Lions in the game with his foot as he went 4 for 4 and the longest of his attempt was 57 yards. Matt Stafford threw for 1 TD. This game came down to the last play of the game. The Lions were on the Falcons 1-yard line as Matt Stafford connected with Golden Tate for a TD in the final seconds of the game but the play was over turned as Tate was down by contact on the half yard line the. The Falcons Narrowly escape with the win.

Lowlites: The Lions Caught a bad break on the  TD that was  called back

Oakland Raiders 10 (2-1)    Washington Redskins 27 (2-1)

Oakland travels to the nation’s capital to take on the Redskins both teams are coming off week 2 wins as Marshawn Lynch and the Silver and Black danced all over the NY Jets and the Skins took one on the road against the Rams.

The Raiders had a tough time getting anything going on the ground as Marshawn Lynch on had 18yards on 6 carries and David Carr only threw for 118 yards and 1 TD to Tight End Jared Cook in the 3rd quarter as the Skins D keep them in check the entire night. For the Redskins Kirk Cousins Threw 3 TD’s and 365 yards.

One of those 3 TD’s were caught by Running Back Chris Thompson who led all receivers with 150 yards on 6 grabs.

The Highlights: The Redskins looked like a well-oiled machine on Sunday Night and the world was introduced to Chris Thompson and the Skins D gave the Raiders all they could handle.

The Lowlights: Oakland was held to only to 128 total yards versus Washington’s 472.

Arizona Cardinals 17 (1- 2)   Dallas Cowboys 28 (2-1)

Former NFC East division rivals locked horns on Monday Night In Glendale in Primetime.  The Cards struck first with a 1st quarter score As Carson Palmer connected with Jaron Brown for a 25 yd TD pass. In the 2nd Quarter Dak Prescott found pay dirt on a 10-yard run. Going into the 4th quarter the game was tied at 14 until Prescott found Brice Butler for a 37 yd. TD making it 21-14 The Cardinals Kicked for three making it 21-17 Cowboys then Zeke Elliott punched it in on an 8-yard run and it was done deal for Dallas.

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald passed Marvin Harrison for 8th place on the all-time receiving yards list with 16,633 in his illustrious career.

.

The Lowlights: The Cardinals running game isn’t quite the same without David Johnson as the amassed on 42 yds. on the ground between Mr. 2000 yds. Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington and Kerwynn Williams
